David Torkington illustrated an article on prayer with a stunning piece of art. I feel in love with the artist. Watercolor and brown ink on mediumweight off-white wove paper. No watermark. 9 3/4 x 13 1/4 in. (24.7 x 33.6 cm). Signed and dated in brown ink at lower right: Marius Abel (with flourish) / 1856.

Note: Abel was a teacher at the Drawing School of the 3rd arrondissement in Paris. He painted religious subjects.
