Somehow the average Catholic does not associate joy with holiness but believes holiness is synonymous with misery. I have written articles on the theology of joy but in this post I will simply overwhelm you with quotes from the saints and the Bible, all affirming the fact that joy is at the core of our spirits when we live in, with, and through Christ.

Dear Madame with 9 Children,
You are welcome to pray for me. I like your choice of artwork! Carl Bloch?
Well done,

I knew a girl called Joy long ago … she was always melancholy. Face like a melon; body like a collie!
Seriously, most Christians I know seem to go through life with a face that looks like it has a permanent bad smell under their nose. Why can’t Christians be joyful? Is it lack of Faith? Now that’s something to think about.
God bless you and yours.

yes, a lack of faith, misunderstanding and a disconnect between the Holy Spirit and each heart

Dear fellow Catholics, life can be crappy, but it’s not like improvement is impossible. Oh, and optimism is neither naivety nor being delusional at all. 🙂

Love all of these quotes. Thank you!
Can’t remember who said this first: In order to find true joy, remember to put J-Jesus first, O-others second, and Y-yourself last.
