Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Expressed in Art

The origins of the holidays are related to the finding by St. Helena relics of the cross at the beginning of the fourth century and dedication in Jerusalem basilica in his honor in 335. At memento of this event – after September 14 – the Church celebrates the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

"September Jesus said to Nicodemus: “No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
