“Where Art Meets Your Soul”
I enjoy discovering and promoting contemporary Catholic artists. Pavol Olsavsky III, a Slovakian-born artist, stepped out and contacted me after seeing my post, Ladislav Zaborsky: Imprisoned for His Art. Olsavsky has been influenced mainly by this Slovakian master, who just died before Christmas 2016. I can see Zaborsky’s influence in Olsavsky’s use of brilliant colours and light.

His work ranges from paintings to woodwork. He received his education in America, earning a BFA from Rutgers University and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art.
He studied under prominent contemporary artists like Will Cotton, Eric Fischl, Vincent Desiderio, and Hanneline Rogeberg among others but still retains his Slovak culture and faith within his work.
Christ is depicted on a fishing boat with desciples as they go and 'fish for men.' The original painting was painted for the Holy Family Parish church in New Brunswick, NJ.
He is an active member of the Catholic Artists Society. Pavol’s work includes murals, sculptures, and paintings, some of which can be seen in various public spaces in New Jersey, including commercial buildings, schools, and churches.

The image depicts Christ carrying the weight of the cross. The cross is bright yellow, symbolizing the salvation of the world and the way towards truth. Christ is cloaked in purple, signifying penance/ prayer/ lenten season.
